Why to use your travel pass in Istanbul?

It you are visiting or staying in Istanbul for some time then you are bound to travel on their public transportation. It would not be possible to move all around on foot to explore the city. However some can have the luxury of a private taxi to aid their movement. If such is not the case then there are chances that you hop on to the public transport more often than not. To make your travel easier a flexible boarding pass is available. It was launched in the year 2009 for fare payment on the public transport. It has radio frequency identification that makes it a contact free card. It can be recharged easily as it is a pre paid card. It is of the same size as your other money based cards and can easily sit in your pocket.

The benefits of the card

The card provides you hassle free travel across the city without getting burdened to buy tokens or tickets each time you use a community transport. Some of its uses are:

1.      Multi functional – a single pass can help you travel via different vehicles like metros, buses, trams or ferries. These transports do not accept cash anyway so buying a ticket is must prior to travel.

2.      Pre paid- the card can be recharged with sufficient credit from chosen machines so you can catch the bus en route your destination without wasting time. It avoids the need for a functional pass during your travel.

3.      Easy to use-the card can function without coming in contact with the reader. It can be simply waved from a distance and the payment for the fare is taken. The remaining balance will be flashed on the card screen and can also indicate deficient funds.

4.      Multiple users- this feature of the cards allows its repeated use by up to 5 travellers. The card has to be waved simultaneously for each rider and the fare is paid.

5.      Discounts- If you use the card for travel purpose you are given a 10% discount over the charge of the travel. If the card is used to make repeated transfers then you get additional benefit.

How to procure your travel pass

The Istanbul Kart can be collected from airports itself by paying a non refundable fee. Then the user has to refill some credit on it to use it for travelling purpose.
